Stop the Time Wasting: Tips and Tricks for Productivity Boosting

I am classic for scrolling mindlessly through my social media accounts on my phone. It happens when there's an awkward lull in a waiting room, when Chris needs to excuse himself from the table when we eat out, when we are sitting at home watching tv and as we wind down for bed.

I am convinced that 90% if not more of my time-wasting stems from my little phone. It's an addiction. I've tried deleting apps, I've tried adjusting my settings to limit my phone usage. But I'm a grown adult and a stubborn one at that, so I do what I want to!

I also have experienced the adverse effects of this "harmless" addiction: comparing myself to others, feeling depressed, getting bored easily, loss of sleep etc.

Overall it just makes me feel like crap.

It also contributes to my days off being less productive and fulfilling than I desire. I love writing, especially for this blog but I had no desire to write. I'm also a lover of reading and I struggled to pick up a book. Crochet projects, trial recipes, baking, going for walks.... all things that sound so fun and interesting when I'm busy at work... all sound drab and mediocre when I'm scrolling my phone.

Well this year I am fed up with feeling like a prisoner to my phone. I am experimenting with a few new things and thought I could use Kaitlyn's Corner as an accountability partner (of sorts) to help keep me on track!

The first thing I read as a tip to being more productive in any given day, is to remain OFF of your phone for the 1st hour of the day. This sounded great to me and so I tried it. My alarm went off (btw helpful trick is to purchase a battery operated alarm clock, to further eliminate the need to touch your phone 1st thing in the morning), I showered and got ready for the day, went downstairs made my coffee, opened my Bible and did my reading and devotionals, cleaned up the house, completed 1 project and realized it had been OVER the 1 hour time limit!!!

I expected after the 30 minute mark, that I'd be checking my feed to see if anything new happened... but it was 2-2 1/2 hours into the day before I checked my phone!

I felt really good, accomplished even and this was only 1 day. It also made it easier to not check my phone as frequently throughout the remainder of the day. I have been struggling to repeat another day like this, but am feeling inspired to give it a try this weekend!

You should try it out too, even for just one day and then reach out to me: via email or commenting on this post with your result. As the lovely cast of High School Musical once said: We're all in this together!
