Winter has only just begun here in West Michigan and so that means it's cold and finally starting to snow. But the dreary weather outside should impact our date nights! This post is for those who are a little stale in planning date night or who are wanting to shake things up from a typical dinner and a movie.
1. Dessert and a Show
Go out and get dessert and then go see a play or musical. It really sometimes is just about giving a classic date night ritual a little facelift or spin to
2. Cozy Night In
Make a nice dinner at home and plan a fun vacation for just the two of you! One of my favorite romantic dinners to whip up super quick and on a dime is Pasta Carbonara, pour two glasses of red wine and light a candle as the two of you brainstorm a romantic getaway! Then after dinner pull out your computer and plan your vacation for 2.
3. Sledding + Cocoa
Take it back to childhood, and live like a kid for an afternoon! Find a park with snowy hills or use your own backyard to sled but also build snow creatures, make snow angels and forts. Then warm up inside with some delicious hot cocoa!
4. Take a Class
It's always fun learning something new, especially with your best friend by your side. Try taking a class of any kind together: cooking, pottery, painting, writing, baking, massaging etc.
5. Books and Dinner
Go to a local bookstore and enjoy a quiet time browsing a section for each of you. Don't go off on your own to browse; hold hands, ask questions, learn something new about each other! Then go out and grab dinner after, talk about how excited you are to read your new books. Maybe after dinner you can go home, get comfy and snuggle together as you dive into your new reads!
6. Spa Day
Who doesn't love getting pampered??? Make it a couples massage and enjoy your pampering together. What is more romantic and relaxing than soft music, dim lighting and being with your love. Bonus tip: Chris and I have gone out after a massage to get a fondue meal, just to add to the date night feel!
7. Romcom + At-Home Happy Hour
These photos from our engagement session always make me feel like we were starring in our very own Romantic Comedy!
For this date night-in have your own happy hour at home include your favorite drinks and maybe make or purchase a couple of simple appetizers. Then pop some popcorn and sit down to enjoy a romcom movie together.
8. Bake Off
Put your baking skills to the test. Share the kitchen together in a fun and friendly bake off competition.
Really you both end up winning because you get double the sweets! It's fun and different and creative.
9. Winter Campfire
We actually tried this at the beginning of December and I would love to try it again, now that we have snow on the ground!
Grab a thermos of hot chocolate and sit bundled up by freshly built fire outside.
Don't let Summer get all the fun!
Bonus tip: Sit as close together as you can and add a big blanket for the two of you to snuggle in, it adds just a little bit of extra coziness to this date.
10. Go on a Winter Hike
Whether you're trekking through the woods and taking in the beauty of the dusted tree tops or you drive out to the beach and walk along the pier covered in dangerously beautiful ice, this is a great date for those who enjoy being outside!
