There is a weird sort of pressure surrounding Valentine's Day. Some people celebrate, others couldn't be bothered by a Hallmark Holiday. As a hopeless romantic, I love celebrating "love" in all it's forms. And while I don't believe this should be done just 1 day a year, I have so much fun participating in Valentine's Day each year.
So if you are wondering what gift is best for those you love.... I've got some ideas:
Experience Gifts
These have exploded in popularity for Christmas gifts, kid's birthday parties and I think gifting an experience is a great gift all year long. Valentine's can be a bummer if you can't eat sweets, so an experience gift is great for anyone with food sensitivities or allergies. It can also be a gift that keeps on giving, especially if you're choosing to gift an experience in the form of a year long membership!
Who are you gifting to?
Are they athletic? Artsy? Outdoorsy? A gamer? Thinking of who you are gifting to is the first place to start. Are they a dog or cat person? Do they like coffee or tea? Finding a specialized or customizable gift is always more heartfelt than a box of chocolates and flowers. It also shows extra effort than just a card. I like using sites like Etsy for handmade, customizable gifts that support someone's small business and craft!
Something that Shows you Listen
I love receiving gifts that show my loved ones listen to me. Whether your loved one drops subtle (or not so subtle) hints all year long, or they simply just express interest in certain types of items, pay attention and maybe make a note on your phone so you can be intentional with your gift giving.
Speak to their love language
There are 5 Love languages. Ways that people like to receive love. We all lean towards at least one of these 5, find out which your loved one is and gift them something that will actually make them feel your love
Physical Touch: Intimacy coupons, at-home body massage, hugs and kisses
Quality Time: board games, a hike together, a special getaway, date plans
Words of Affirmation: love notes, reading off a list of reasons you love each other, conversation cards
Acts of Service: coupon book, taking something off of their plate, home cooked meal
Gifts: flowers, chocolates, jewelry etc. (see above for more ideas)
