So many baby announcements recently got me thinking, I should share a How-To on setting up a Nursery!
If you are new around here Chris and I made the decision to completely set up a Nursery, long before we get the news of having a baby. I write all about why we came to our decision in this post HERE.
We have loved praying over and spending time with God in our Nursery/Prayer Room and it has been extremely therapeutic for me to finding peace in our season of waiting.
So whether you have news that your bundle of joy is on it's way or you are also waiting and need a room that you can pray over, let me give you some tips for setting up the Nursery!
First step is picking the room. You want it super close to your master bedroom, it doesn't have to be spacious, but we chose the bigger of the two rooms next to our bedroom. I knew the minute we did a walk-through of our home that the room with the big window and window seat would be our future baby's room. I suggest picking a room with a good amount of natural sunlight to help with baby's sleep cycle. This room, for us, already had super soft carpeting, but if you live with all hardwood, rugs are a great option to soften baby's bedroom!
Next up is the facelift! Our walls were all brown and dark, so I knew I would need to spruce the place up with a fresh coat of paint. What color to go for??? If you are preparing in advance like us, or choose not to know the gender neutral colors are great. Neutral doesn't have to be boring! Gray is a popular option, but we tossed between either a pale yellow or green. We landed on Foamy Green and so I began the process. With how dark our walls were I needed to paint a priming coat first. I taped off the baseboards and around the window and then got to work! The final color is perfect, now on to furnishing.
I wanted a tan/gray theme for our furniture. We were at Costco and saw this rocking chair and knew we had to snatch it up. It was comfortable, gray and had a USB port on the side! Next up was the crib, we found ours at IKEA it came with 3 drawers for extra storage and it is a convertible bed, which means we don't have to worry about our baby outgrowing it. We were storing a shelving unit in the basement, it came with polka dotted storage cubes and I thought it would work perfectly in our future Nursery. Chris and I lugged it upstairs and set it up on the wall. The final piece of furniture needed was the dresser. I liked this one from IKEA, it was the perfect size and color. We assembled it all and then I started messing with the placement of everything.
I had placed a shelf from my childhood up on the wall and I ordered a poster from Jenessa Wait that I wanted hung on the other wall. I decided to place the crib underneath the poster which reads "For the child I prayed + the Lord has given me the Desires of my Heart." Once the crib was set I wanted to find the sweet spot for the rocker. It now sits comfortably in the corner across from the crib. The dresser is right next to the rocker and is currently decorated with a little basket that will someday hold baby changing items: powder, creams, wipes etc. In between the chair and dresser I have a cute basket that will serve as a laundry hamper. Facing the dresser is the bookshelf that is already filled with books from mine and Chris' childhood as well as some new ones. Next to the shelf is a small basket filled with soft toys and stuffed animals. In between the crib and bedroom closet is a little bouncy seat that my mom passed on to us.
Accessories are next! I mentioned the cute little baskets we have but I also found these closet separators on Amazon which will be perfect to organize different sized clothing we will get. On the back of the door we hung up additional back stock storage for extra wipes, diapers and baby accessories. I decorated the wall shelf with trinkets from my baby days and on top of the bookshelf is a music box and a tiny Bluetooth speaker that looks like "Baby Yoda" from the tv show Mandalorian (if we are nerds then we have to add this touch to our future baby's room right???)
Finally we got rid of the pull cord blinds and replaced them with a simple curtain rod + drapes. I also bought this small ottoman which is perfect for coffee and quiet times but also gives a touch more storage.
All the furniture is anchored into the wall, and we are fairly set for whenever a baby is revealed in our life's path! I hope my decorating style inspires you or my tips help you begin the process for your own future little! I would love to see pictures of your nursery's and give us all even more inspiration!
