Freshen Up Your Home: 10 Easy Ways to Make it Smell Amazing this Spring

It's time to open up the windows and let the warmer air breeze through the house. But there are many ways to freshen up our homes when that glorious Spring weather arrives.

Candles

Candles are a great way to make your space smell fresh and inviting. I find floral and fruity scents are favorable this time of year. If you are not a fan of candle scents and have a sensitivity to them, fear not and read on...

Cinnamon

Sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon down on your hard surfaced floor and then vacuum it up. The rest of your vacuuming chores will smell like cinnamon, leaving your house smelling fantastic!

DIY Floor Cleaner

While I love the cinnamon trick, I love the scent of lavender even better for Spring cleaning. I make my own floor cleaner:

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar

  • 1 Tablespoon isopropyl alcohol

  • 2 drops dish soap

  • 10 drops essential oil of choice

Pour into a spray bottle all of the ingredients in the order that they appear.

Shake the bottle and spritz onto the floor, running your mop over it.

Flowers

Fresh flowers are not only pretty to look at, but they can make your home smell absolutely fresh and lovely.

Windows Open

Keep the windows open! This will help cycle out any stale odors in your home, as well as give you the much needed oxygen needed to promote brain health.

Stovetop Potpourri

Make a stovetop potpourri. I love doing this during the holiday season with orange, cloves, cranberries and cinnamon but this can be achieved with some lemon, rosemary and vanilla for the Spring.

Washing Pillow Covers & Blankets

Washing your throw pillow covers and blankets as well as giving your couch cushions a nice deep clean will get rid of any odors that have accumulated over the winter.

Carpets & Rugs

I also like to deodorize my rugs and carpet with a sprinkling of baking soda. Letting it sit for about 5-10 minutes and then vacuuming it up.

DIY Neutralizer

Making your own DIY Neutralizer for stinky places like a garbage can, will keep the kitchen smelling fabulous all year long. Just grab a coffee filter, fill it with baking soda and tie it off. Throw your sachet at the bottom of your trash bin before replacing the trash bag.

Herbs

Fresh herbs, like flowers, are a great touch of greenery in the kitchen, as well as providing that freshness in the air we all crave this time of year.
