Autumn: I think it is the one season we all long for and get excited for when it is coming! I like to lay decorative pieces out for each season, so if you do too you will LOVE my budget friendly tips to decorating your home for the Fall 🎃🍂🍁
Dollar Tree Finds:
This leafy garland was one that I purchased when I first moved away from home at 20 years old. It has lasted me for close to a decade.
I have also had a few other pieces I found at the dollar store, a door Halloween decoration, pumpkin sign and decorative flowers.
The first thought with dollar store items is they are cheap and won't last, but I have to disagree! So if you love decorating but need to stay within a budget, head over to your local dollar store and see what you can find.
A Little Goes a Long way:
I'm writing this one down as a reminder to myself! It can be so easy to want to go overboard with our decorating! What I typically do is make the main floor the main "event." Fall foliage sprinkled throughout and touches of pumpkins, candles and Autumn colors.
The upstairs and basement usually get very minimal decorations, but still have at least one or two items to tie the whole house together.
My outdoor decorations usually include a new welcome rug and wreath on the front door.
DIY Décor:
The dollar stores can have quite the selection of crafting tools. Otherwise any other craft store will do for creating your own Fall Décor this season!
It can help you stretch the right side of your brain, and I find crafting to be relaxing. You get a sense of pride when people compliment your pieces and you can give yourself a pat on the back for your craftsmanship and hard work.
Repurpose:
Something I did last year and continued to do this year is repurposing certain items, and make them useful in a new way.
For example, this flannel scarf could look cute added to an outfit for a layering piece or you can fold them up and use them as a table or counter runner like this:
I find it adds an extra element to my kitchen and it looks so good!
New Pillows vs. New Cases:
Whenever Autumn décor goes up in stores, I am always tempted to buy all the pillows. I get the same way when Winter, Spring and Summer decorations go up as well.
To save space and money, I went out and purchased plain pillows and then ordered seasonal pillow cases to throw on and interchange as the seasons come and go.
It changes the look of the space and feels fresh with each new season!
Versatile Throws, All year Round:
I like to work smarter not harder, and one way to do that from a decorations' stand point is to have throw blankets that work all year round. I go for more neutral colors: cream and grays and my yellow throw goes great for that pop of color and can be representative of a golden leaf for Autumn, shining Christmas Star, Springtime flowers or the bright Summer sun!
I also recommend different textures with your blankets, to give depth and life to your space.
It gives the room consistency all year, while also never clashing with any other home decorations I put up seasonally.

Love the scarf as a table runner idea!
