I wrote last month, that I wanted to start trying different coffee recipes at home. To preface, I usually buy my coffee grounds and either place them in my pour over coffee glass or use my French press and then add the hot water over top and pour into a mug with some flavored almond milk creamer. (I have never been a fan of completely black coffee either).
This month I experimented with a traditional French and Italian coffee recipe and would like to share my results with you all:
Cafe au Lait: 1 part hot, strong coffee + 1 part hot steamed milk + croissant
I made mine with espresso, because what coffee is stronger than that?!?! For name's sake I made it in my French press. I had plain/original almond milk that I poured into a small saucepan and heated on the stovetop. Truly it was reminiscent of black coffee and I was desiring some sort of flavoring or sweetener. The almond milk also left some sort of film at the top so I'm curious if this would have been better had I used regular whole milk.
Nevertheless, I drank the whole cup, so it wasn't excruciatingly painful, just wasn't my favorite.
Caramel Macchiato: 2 oz espresso (I used instant, as I don't have an espresso maker) 12 oz steamed milk (frothed) 2 Tablespoons vanilla syrup, drizzle of caramel sauce
This one was more up my alley. However it was harder to froth the almond milk, or needed a bit longer to be thoroughly frothed. Flavor-wise, it was much more delicious and on par with my normal coffee flavorings. It is also best if served in an extra large mug or to-go coffee cup, or split amongst friends.
