Over the last 2 years I have enjoyed turning our house into a home. It has almost come naturally, I was nesting even before we got married and I have continued to nest as we prepare our hearts and home for our someday baby.
I love sitting in a room and imagining what could be, and even better is when that dream becomes a reality. I've never been one for trends and always decorate my home the way I want, regardless of what experts say is "in." But when doing some research for this entry, I found that I have been trendy all along!
If you are interested in what's trendy, or are curious to see if you are "accidentally trendy," like I was, stay tuned!
Colors
Apparently every year a color palette is chosen for what will be "in" for home décor. This year Pantone has chosen Gray and Yellow. We have always had our two gray couches and so I thought it would be super easy to add a yellow throw blanket to the mix.
It really adds extra warmth to the space and I decided to layer it with a cream throw blanket and pillow as well to add some depth.
Greenery
Another thing that has become very popular over 2020 and into 2021 is house plants and home gardens. Everyone is attempting to grow their own herbs and veggies. And many are finding their green thumb! I myself have a small collection of herbs for cooking and garnishing dishes.
House plants are also big right now. Whether you are a succulent, flower or large fiddle leaf-plant person, having these pieces in our homes have been scientifically linked to reducing stress, improving focus, boosting productivity and may even improve the quality of indoor air.
Cottage + Beach House Chic
Over the course of 2020 many people longed to get out of the house, but depending on your State's restrictions, many of us were stuck at home. I think that's where the inspiration for this next trend came from!
If you can't go to the beach, decorate your home with those Cottage Home and Beach House vibes! White furniture and pale blue and white accents, even beachy wall hangings, cozy fireplaces and greenery throughout, give the space a slight vacation feel, while still feeling homey.
Vintage
I think this trend has been around for the last few years, whether you've inherited your grandmothers dresser or you buy a new one and age it yourself, vintage pieces are a great addition to any home.
I'm not saying to go all out, unless that's your style. I like to sprinkle a few older looking pieces in with some of our modern elements. If I could thrift for every piece of furniture, I probably would. I have always been fascinated with history and I love when things are hand made and have a story behind them, but my darling husband is a man of the modern age. Maybe it's because he works in I.T but he loves sleek and modern, he loves making a list on his phone and I still have to grab paper and a pen.
Warm Colors/Neutral Tones
Some might find neutral tones too "Vanilla," but I think it makes a space feel clean, and you can decorate with any other warm and vibrant colors you like. It's also cost effective, by painting a room gray, cream or beige and furnishing with other neutral colored pieces, you save money on having to paint a room every time you update your new colorful furniture or you're forced to go with a specific colored couch because you don't want to paint.
When going for neutrals I like a lighter wall, our living room was painted a cream color and as I mentioned above, we have gray couches. This allows any color decoration to circulate year round, and leaves space to add any pops of color at any time.
Those are my top 5 picks of 2021's Home Décor trends. Which trends are your favorites? Do you already have a few of these trends in your home?
I hope you found inspiration to give your space some love!
